European stocks gained in todays session
European stocks gained in todays session as the region’s factory output rose and JPMorgan Chase & Co. reported record profit. The Stoxx 600 Europe Index rose 0.7 % to 278.25 the biggest gain since April 1.
The index dropped 1.7 % yesterday as Japan raised its warning on the stricken Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant and Alcoa Inc.’s sales missed analysts’ estimates, has declined 4.4 % from this year’s high on Feb. 17.
National benchmark indexes rose in 16 of the 18 European markets. The FTSE 100 Index and France’s CAC 40 Index advanced 0.8 %, while Germany’s DAX Index climbed 1.1 %.
