Short interest
The number of shares of a particular stock that bearish traders and investors have sold short. Shorting is a strategy that benefits from a stock’s decline by selling borrowed shares in the open market and then buying those shares back later at a lower price. Short interest signals potential future buying power, as the shares must eventually be repurchased.
