Unemployement Rate in Spain Jumps

Jobless claims in Spain fly up from 20.3% to 21.3%, a 14 year high. The Spanish economy is still getting blows, along with the high infaltion that rose in April to 3.8% and retail sales rose to 8.6%.

German retail sales volume were released for March with a 2.1% drop, falling for the second month in a row. It.s 2.1% drop for month-on-month basis and 3.5% lower on the year. These values brought Germany to an 11-month low for retail sales.

The USD weakens against most major currencies making the currency look weak against its rivals. The Japanese currency is recovering against the Dollar after a few ‘bombs’ in Japan from the S&P announcement. The Euro peaked to a 16-month high price against the Dollar at 1.4881 and the Aussie Dollar also gained a fair amount against the U.S Dollar, reaching 1.0947 from 1.0865. Aussie is continuing to look hawkish.

For the first time since 2008 the European Central Bank tampered with europes interest rates in order to maintain stabilized prices, the ECB rose interest rates by 0.25% from 1% to 1.25% earlier this month; and now ECB’s president Jean-Claude Trichet is speaking in interviews about the interest rate and inflation views.
