European stocks were flat

European stocks were flat as China’s inflation accelerated in March to the fastest pace since 2008, US index futures and Asian shares retreated. Most indexes are up slightly except the Spainish IBEX which is down.

European Central Bank’s vice-president, Constancio, dicussed matters this morning on worldwide news; mentioning that inflation remained a worry. The most recent inflatio data points that the HICP rose more tha expected to a high of 2.7%.

Ireland’s soverign rating has been dropped from to BAA3 from BAA1, pushing the euro lower and adding to renewed pressure on Euroland’s weaker countries.

EUR/USD traded at a low of 1.4365, failing the attemp to trade over 1.4520. EUR/JPY traded at 119.55 from 120.87. EUR/CHF went from 1.2949 to 1.2856, strengthening the swiss franc. The European currency weakened against the US dollar, swiss franc as well as the Japanese currency.

The Euro has tumbled from 1.45117 to 1.43752 this afternoon, further concerns regarding Ireland and the ECB statement that they are not going to continue bailouts forever has once again put pressure on the Euro.
