U.S. Retail Sales and Unemployment Claims

The amount of American citizens applied for unemployment benefits grew by 24 000 to 399 000 in week ended 7th of January.

Analysts expected a number of 375 000 applications for last week.

Department of Commerce presented also retail sales data.
U.S. December’s retail sales increased 0.1% to a seasonally adjusted 400.6 billion dollars.
November’s revised data showed 0.4% rise.

Core retail sales fell 0.2% after 0.3% increase in previous month.
It is the first recorded core sales decrease in last year.
