Australian stocks recouped early losses

Australian stocks recouped early losses and ended 0.3 percent higher Wednesday, with investors taking profits on miners and switching into banks. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index gained 12.3 points to close at 4,911.0, according to the latest data.

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index ended up 0.2 percent at 3,457.6.

Other Asian markets were all up at the end of trading. Hang Seng, 24,135.03 up 158.66 (0.66%), BSE 30 19696.86 up 434.32 (2.25%), Jakarta Composite 3,734.42 up 15.18 (0.42%), KLSE Composite 1,535.39 up 9.67 (0.63%), Nikkei 225 9,641.18 up 85.92 (0.90%), Straits Times 3,172.08 up 34.08 (1.09%), Seoul Composite 2,121.92 up 32.52 (1.56%) and finally the Taiwan Weighted 8,780.20 up 47.61 (0.55%)
