After the EU and US markets getting hit yesterday there was little chance the Asian markets would not suffer the same consequence.

US markets edged their way up from session lows yet still settled losses in the 1% range. Initially weakness was the result of debt issues in Eurolands markets and the US opened trade sharply lower.

The FTSE 100 closed down 125.93 points, or 2.1 %, at 5,870.08, its lowest close since March 23.

Standard & Poor’s downgraded its credit outlook for the United States mainly due to congress not reaching an agreement on the budget deficit which has taken almost 200 points off the Dow at time of writing.
