Euro area trade surplus at EUR5.9 billion

The Eurostat reported today 5.9 billion euro of seasonally adjusted trade surplus in euro area in the first month of 2012.

Comparing with previous year exports in euro zone improved by 11% but imports only by 4% in January.

Euro area countries keep positive trade balance for a fifth successive month.

For the whole EU January 2012 brought increase of exports by 1.3% and imports by 2.4%, comparing with prior month.

The biggest European economy confirmed its strength managing almost 40% of European exports. Germany recorded total trade surplus of EUR157 billion.

On the other hand U.K. reading showed 117.4 billion euro trade deficit, which was the highest recorded among EU countries.
